Albertsons Cos. achieves favorable ROI in 12-month pilot while saving employees money and improving their health outcomes
DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Albertsons Companies has strengthened its employee benefits package by expanding its employees’ access to BridgeHealth, an industry-leading provider of Surgical Centers of Excellence.
Albertsons Cos., the second largest traditional retail grocer in the United States, identified BridgeHealth as an innovative way to stem the cost of high-dollar surgeries while improving the health and wellness of employees. To validate the potential in savings and improved outcomes, Albertsons Cos. and BridgeHealth conducted a year-long pilot in 2018 that provided 7,000 of their employees and dependents in four states access to top-ranked surgical centers at no cost to the employee. The pilot achieved a favorable ROI over the first 12 months and markedly reduced surgical complications and readmission rates, while achieving a 90 Net Promoter Score® from participants.

Albertsons Cos. is offering the benefit free of charge to its nearly 30,000 employees on company-sponsored Albertsons and Safeway health plans. The benefit also covers dependents.
In addition to providing access to the highest quality care and significant cost savings, BridgeHealth also provides members who utilize the service with a dedicated care coordinator. The care coordinator manages all aspects of the surgery from records collection and surgery preparation through travel planning and recovery. To incent utilization, Albertsons Cos. has waived employee deductibles and co-insurance associated with the surgery and covers any travel and lodging expenses for the member and a travel companion.
